Good morning all!! I hope you are sleeping as well as your little darlings are!! Charlie said that as far as he can tell, everyone is pretty much in bed by 11:00. Plenty of rest means everyone stays healthy and happy!! Have you noticed in the pictures the guys who are sleeping outside? Love it!!

Yesterday was another great day!! Everyone is working hard and not complaining and just being awesome!! Be proud parents. Be very proud. I know I say this every year but I wish you guys could hear Charlie when he gives me the daily updates. He is so pumped and just so excited about what all is going on and how great the kids are. There is no way that I can relay it to you with the same emotion. Speaking of Charlie, I don’t know how many of you know this, but he is the CEO of the summer mission trips. He does the majority of the planning and coordinating before the trip and is the one who trouble-shoots during the trip. He stays up at night to upload the pictures for you guys. He takes time out to call me everyday to relay the information I post in the daily email. He loves your students well. So Charlie, you are our king today .
Yesterday was a much cooler day. Ok. Not that much cooler. The temperature was around 80 and it was overcast. A shower came through which slowed down the roofers but nothing they can’t overcome. The painters finished the first coat of paint for the school but the flooring crew didn’t quite finish today. Apparently the slow down is the cutting guy (aka our king for the day). He said the students are putting it down faster than he can cut it!! The only problem with this number of students is keeping them all busy! They WANT to work. How crazy is that?!?! Charlie said they are being really good about understanding that sometimes there just isn’t anything to do at that moment and they come back a little later to see if there is something then. Who knows? Maybe they will actually come home with that attitude? “Mom, do you have anything you need me to do?” “Dad, can I mow the lawn?” It could happen…….
There were over 60 kids at VBS today!!! They had a WONDERFUL time!! Charlie said the guys had to have sore necks and backs from carrying the kids around all day and being human climbing toys. Don’t you know those kids felt loved!!!! Oh the seeds they are planting!!!!
The guys finished the first half of the secret project for Shirley. The freshman girls have Phase II to complete and it will be finished. Shirley is so excited! I can’t wait to see the finished project!!
The cooks grilled hot dogs for all the students and for kids camp and they were yummy!! Last night was chicken and macaroni. Yum! For a little more info on the life of the cooks, check this out:
“They cooked over 700 pancakes this morning on two (2) griddles on a regular kitchen stove for the little darlings who awoke at 8 am. Meal cleanup takes about an hour and a half and then it is on to the store for supplies for the next meal. There is no interim refrigeration or storage to allow larger volume purchases. The close-by little grocer has bread for $3.50 a loaf while Wal-Mart over 30 minutes away is $1.25. Patti Cloud has done an awesome job of planning the meals and the preparations needed. She could use some additional prayer to relax and rest at the end of very full days.”
They are doing this for YOUR little darlings and do it without complaining and with lots and lots of love. They get to keep their crowns all week………
Another parent who is serving this week is Kellee Cronan. She is the resident nurse along with Nicole and is coming in quite handy for smashed fingers and other minor cuts and scrapes. She gave up a week of her summer and rode that bus 30+ hours too. So Kellee, you are our queen today!!
Every night they are giving out awards for exceptional deeds or attitudes. Last night David Hoch received the “Donkey Award” because he worked like a donkey all day. (For you non-southern people, that is a good thing.) Anthony Weatherly won the “Most Enthusiastic Worker” award because he just has a great attitude and Sara Lewis won the “Lifesaver Award”. Apparently, she literally saved a little boy’s life yesterday. Some of the kids a VBS are just a little …… rambuncous. This little guy broke away from the group and took off running towards the busy and fast moving two lane highway that runs parallel to their site. Just as he was stepping onto the highway IN FRONT OF A CAR THAT WAS GOING ABOUT 50 MPH, Kelly grabbed him and pulled him out of the way. Our bus driver saw the whole incident and said he thought the child was going to be killed before she pulled him back. That, dear friends, is God’s grace.
They had another awesome evening of worship led by JP. That kid is gifted. Period. The young ladies who run Crave Ministries shared what life was like for them as Christians on an Indian Reservation and what life was like for the children who are coming to VBS. Heather, our liason with Crave, said it was lonely – very lonely. She had 12 of our team stand up and said, “That is our Church. That is how many menbers we have.” That was a real eye-opener. She pointed out how blessed we are that we have such a large community of believers to share life with. It isn’t easy being in ministry out there. They all have to work another job that actually pays money and then they spend their spare time pouring into the people on the Reservation. It is lonely and taxing. They are glad we are there and they crave REAL relationships with our team. She then described the lives of the children on the Reservation. Some of the kids who will show up would have gone to bed hungry and cried themselves to sleep. Some of the kids have parents who neglect them while they are out partying and they are virtually raising themselves. Others would have experienced sexual abuse within the last couple of weeks. That is why the children hang – literally – on your little darlings. They are DESPARATE for a hug. A loving touch. Someone to smile and talk to them. Satan has a hold there – a tight hold – with depression, alcoholism, sexual abuse, and hopelessness. They know that God can break that stronghold and pray that His love will shine though. Our team gathered around and prayed for the girls and it was just a sweet, sweet time.

Continue to pray for safety, unity, and for Jesus to shine through everyone!! With 100 people serving together, there are moments of mini-drama and potential relational junk. The leaders are addressing it quickly and so far, nothing has escalated into a huge thing. Shep said that the problems are a good thing in one way because the junk has to come to the surface so it can be burned off in the refiner’s fire. Great point! Don’t we all have “stuff” that needs to be burned out. Also pray for the young ladies who run Crave Ministries and that our team will minister to them and that real relationships will be forged. Don’t forget to pray at 7:30!!
One of our students who isn’t it Wyoming sent this to Cathi:
“Hi Cathi I’m a student who goes to fuel but I was unable to go to Wyoming because of scheduling conflicts but last night I had a dream that someone and not god was telling everyone in Wyoming that it was all about him and not about god and that it was all about them too. And I know their motto for the week is its not about me so I think today needs a lot of prayer to keep the enemy away from that reservation and to let god shine through those kids and leaders. Thanks for all you are doing,”
PLEASE continue to pray!!!
